Pray for our Shuyukh

Ramadhan Day 11

"Before many of those who converted to Islam, the likes of Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Imam Zaid Shakir, Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, Ustadh Dawood Yasin, Ustadh Usama Canon, Shaykh Hajj Abdassamad Clarke, Shaykh Sidi Yahya Rhodus, Imam Abdul Latif, Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad etc, etc, Muslims in the west were in a painful drought of the True Orthodoxy of Islam. They brought to our world the revitalisation, the revival and renewal of Islam. They saved so many of us from being taken astray from the Prophetic Legacy of Islam. They have awoken our hearts to the Truth of Allah Ta'ala.

Most of us would not know what Aqidah is, what books to study, how Islam operates as a religion for human guidance and what Islam, Iman and Ihsan is. The work of those who converted to Islam in the last 20-30 years is a crucial GIFT to the Ummah.

Many will agree, particularly all those who know first hand, it is the courageous work of Shaykh Hamza Yusuf that changed the face of a modernistic, selective, literalistic and Tradition-less Islam; Allah chose him to bring back to life and to revive the true Prophetic Tradition of Islam.

And undeniably, today, the recurring problems - from moon sighting, finance and trade, proper scholarship and a whole lot more - continue to be a bickering problem due mostly to the ethno-Muslim clerics who arise from the so-called Muslim lands living in the west. They continue to hijack their communities and are unfortunate obstacles to the thriving of and the proper knowing of Islam.

But this is not about their negative reality; this is about honouring, acknowledging and supplicating for so many of the Muslim Scholars and activists who converted to Islam in the past three decades. I pray for their blessed growth in beneficial knowledge, their safety, their wellbeing and their salvation with Allah. Please pray for them.

And if you can, dedicate your good rewards of this Ramadan to THEM; without them through the Grace of Allah, we would not know much about our Deen. Do not think this to be a small matter; our Teachers are heirs of the Prophet and saviours of our soul with our Lord. Our parents may give us protection us in this world, and may Allah reward them, but our Teachers give us means to protect our souls forever. Pray for your parents, but if you do then take a moment to pray for all your Teachers."
